Honghe cigarettes were first planned in 1985, went into trial production in 1987, and began full production in 1988. In 1993, the Honghe Prefecture Tobacco Monopoly Bureau, the related company, and the Honghe Cigarette Factory implemented a "trinity" management system, which was later separated after 2003. In 2004, they merged with the Zhaotong Cigarette Factory to form the Honghe Cigarette General Factory. The Xinjiang Cigarette Factory joined this factory in 2005. On May 18, 2007, Honghe Tobacco (Group) Co., Ltd. was officially established. On November 8, 2008, it was formed by merging the former Hongyun Tobacco (Group) Co., Ltd. and Honghe Tobacco (Group) Co., Ltd. to create Hongyun Honghe Tobacco (Group) Co., Ltd. Since 1993, the factory has focused on producing a single brand, making it the only tobacco manufacturing enterprise in China that produces just one brand. Currently, it offers one main brand—Honghe—with thirteen different varieties: "Honghe V8" (soft and hard), "Honghe V6" (hard), "Honghe Premium" (hard slim pack), "Premium 99" (soft and hard), "Premium 88" (soft and hard), "Honghe 66" (hard), "Grade A" (soft and hard), and "Grade B" (soft and hard). This variety range covers high-, mid-, and low-end products to meet the needs of consumers at different price points. Honghe is the flagship brand of the Honghe Cigarette Factory under the Hongyun Honghe Group. As a typical Yunnan cigarette, it includes multiple variants such as Honghe Dao, Honghe Yuan, Honghe V8, Honghe 99, Honghe 88, and Honghe Grade A, offering options for various budget levels to suit different consumers. The Honghe Cigarette Factory was established in 1985, and the Honghe brand officially went on sale in 1988. In 2003, it was recognized as a "Famous Chinese Trademark" and a "China Famous Brand." In 2008, its annual sales reached new record highs, and the "Honghe phenomenon" became widely renowned within China’s cigarette industry.
